Royal Icing Recipe

Royal Icing Recipe

This is the Royal Icing Recipe I picked up from Angela Nino of the Painted Box. I use this to outline cookies then fill with the glaze icing. But you can add more water to this recipe and use it to flood the cookie within the outline. Royal Icing does tend to absorb paint more than the glaze, but it's still a good option.

  • 1 lb Powdered Sugar (1/2 bag)
  • 2 Tbsp Meringue Powder
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1/4 cup water (add more slowly to reach flood consistency)
  • Americolor Bright White Food Coloring.
  1. Whisk together Meringue Powder and water to dissolve the powder
  2. Add Powder Sugar in increments  while mixing on low
  3. Add in vanilla and white food coloring.
  4. Mix on high until you have stiff peaks.
  5. Fill tipless icing bags and use as desired.
